Childersburg Chamber invites citizens, businesses to join Christmas paradeBy Christa Jennings Home staff writer The Childersburg Chamber of Commerce recently announced the annual Christmas Parade to be held Dec. 14 at 6 p.m. in downtown Childersburg. Individuals are invited to show their Christmas spirit and community pride by entering an amateur float that they design and make, a decorated car or truck or any entry within the realm of their imagination. There is no entry fee. However, the chamber will gratefully accept any donation that an individual would like to make to help with the parade expenses. All checks need to be made payable to the Childersburg Chamber of Commerce. The deadline to enter the parade is Dec. 4, and no entries will be accepted after the deadline date. Amateur floats will be judged for first-, second- and third-place winners. The best decorated vehicle will also receive an award. Judging will take place at 4:45 p.m., and awards will be presented before the parade begins. The chamber is also providing groups, businesses or individuals the opportunity to purchase a completely decorated professional float with a generator. The business or group name will appear on the side of the float. The prices of the floats are $380 for one sponsor with one name on each side of the float, $200 each for two sponsors with two names on the float or $120 each for four sponsors with four names on the float. Trucks and drivers will be furnished for the professional floats. If a sponsor has his or her own truck and driver, please let the chamber know. Otherwise, it will provide the service for the purchased professional float. Most of the professional floats will hold 12 to 15 people from the sponsor’s business or group, or the sponsor can request that the chamber find people to ride on the float. On floats that have two or more sponsors, the groups must adjust their number of riders accordingly. The professional floats will be parked behind the visitor’s bleachers at the football stadium on the day of the parade. Sponsors are welcome to inspect their float and add additional lights or decorations if they wish. In the interest of safety, the chamber does ask that no one throw candy or other objects from floats or cars. It also requests that individuals do not use a Santa Claus on their parade entry. To enter a car, an amateur float, purchase a professional float or make a donation to help with parade expenses, individuals or groups simply need to get a form and fill it out.
